Sling Review – Soul Slings Sapphire Ring Sling

When babywearing in warm or humid weather, experienced wearers would always recommend using a linen sling in single layer carries. Linen is light and airy as it allows air to flow through the fabric easily and lets the skin breathe in the heat.

I consider myself one lucky momma for being able to host two carriers from Soul Slings; the cotton Celadon and the 100% linen, Sapphire ringsling.

At first touch, Sapphire felt incredibly thin and floppy. I knew that linen is an amazingly supportive fabric but I was still worried that it wouldn’t be able to provide the right amount of support for my heavy wriggly toddler.

The rich solid navy blue color of Sapphire is very versatile. You don’t have to worry about coordinating your clothes with your carrier because it can match any outfit. Babywearing dads would also enjoy wearing their little bubs with Sapphire for its masculine vibe.

Against the light, you can see how wonderful this sling is in hot weather. It’s so thin you can see right through it.

It is also compact, it would be easy to store in your diaper bag as it doesn’t take a lot of space. If you have a toddler who likes to be in and out of a carrier, just pop Sapphire in your bag and use it for short carries.

While we were gallivanting around the Venice Piazza canal and mall, I noticed that I had to make adjustments every now and then by tightening the rails and pulling up the seat.

The thin linen kept on slipping from the large rings and I also had to regularly fix Sophia’s position to ensure our comfort.  She was asleep throughout our walk and I don’t know how we would have fared if she was awake since she would be wriggling around and trying to pop her seat.

Sapphire would be the perfect sling for newborns and babies who are on the lighter side. The thin fabric will not overheat your squish and it will not overwhelm those tiny legs.

I advise it to be used by an experienced babywearer or someone who is not daunted by ringslings.  The wearer should be able to carefully thread and tighten the rails well and spread it evenly at the back to avoid discomfort while wearing.

After snapping some photos, Sophia woke up from her nap and we had to change back to Celadon (see my review here) as it was more comfortable for us.

This 100% linen ringsling is affordable at $65 or Php 3100.86 (as of currency conversion at publish date).  You can reach out to our local retailers, MommAmazing and King and Mum-n-Bub for more information.

Overall, Soul Slings Sapphire linen ringsling is a great summer sling for its light and airy fabric. It is perfect for newborns as it’s not too bulky for tiny legs. Since linen can be slippery, careful threading and tightening of the rails is necessary to ensure proper positioning and comfort for both wearer and baby. Furthermore, I would recommend Sapphire for someone who has experience in using ringslings. The solid color and fabric may be confusing for newbies and people who are ringsling-challenged.

Sling Review – Soul Slings Celadon Ring Sling

I have a precocious hyperactive firecracker of a toddler who loves to run and play hide and seek with mommy and the doggies. The only way I can calm her down is to superman toss her on my back and wrap her as quickly as I can before she can start to wriggle her way back down on the floor to resume her crazy antics.  There are times when wrapping a mini Houdini can become a futile exercise in patience.  So what can this frazzled fluffy mommy do? Reach for her trusty ringsling for a quick and effortless uppy, of course.

When I first heard that I would be hosting Soul Slings Celadon ringsling, I was quite delighted to have another ringsling in my anti-grouchy baby arsenal.  I have heard great things about this new brand and I wanted to know if their slings are as marvelous as the numerous feedback that I have read.

Soul Slings is a family run baby carrier company based in Bangalore, India.  Managed by the husband and wife team, Ravindra and  Chinmayie, they are spreading the babywearing love by creating comfortable, fashionable and affordable baby slings and carriers.

Us, Filipino moms would definitely feel an affinity with Ravindra and  Chinmayie. They are a homeschooling, breastfeeding, cloth-diapering, attachment-parenting, co-sleeping, and of course, babywearing family of four. It’s wonderful to know that we are supporting a business whose makers share the same advocacies as we do.

The color of the Soul Slings Celadon ringsling reminds me of a beautiful green beryl gemstone.  It is cool and relaxing to the eyes and the gender neutral shade makes a good opportunity for babywearing daddies to show off their skills with a sling.  The white vertical stripes along the rails are also a good visual guide for newbie wrappers or for those who consider ringslings as their waterloo.

The handwoven fabric felt sturdy but soft and it molds well as it has been lovingly broken in by the previous testers.  The large rings ensured that the fabric is easily threaded through and the thickness of the sling prevents it from slipping.

On our family day out, I brought the Souls Slings ringsling with us as we strolled along the beautiful canals of Venice Piazza at MckKinley Hill. Since the little bub was napping during our walk, I carried her in Celadon and was pleasantly surprised that I didn’t experience any back pain or shoulder strain. The gathered shoulder of the sling was likewise comfortable as it capped the shoulder well and helped distribute baby’s weight across my back.

This lovely sling is made of 100% cotton and despite it’s medium weight thickness, it still felt airy and light.  It’s the perfect sling when you’re out and about under the sun with your little one.

True to its brand vision of making Soul Slings pocket-friendly, this beautiful and elegant carrier is affordable at $65 or Php 3116.95 (as of publish date’s conversion rate).  Isn’t it awesome! An international brand with a great price point.

If you are looking for a practical, elegant, compact and infant/toddler worthy sling, I recommend Soul Slings Celadon ringsling for its support and airiness, elegant design and color, and of course its amazing price.
